José Duarte Assunção Dias

José Duarte Assunção Dias has graduated in Finance (1972/1973) from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (Instituto Superior de Economia, today the LISBOA School of Economics and Management of the Universidade de Lisboa).

After graduation, he started his professional career at Inspeção Geral de Finanças - IGF (Inspectorate General for Finance), where he has risen to its highest position (General Inspector) until his departure in 1996.

From July 1994 to September 1995 he served as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Finance.

He is enrolled as Chartered Accountant since 1982, (number 513 in the professional list) and is currently a partner of Alves da Cunha, A. Dias & Associados, SROC, Lda. His current work as a Chartered Accountant is carried out in different private, public and state owned companies and entities, as a Statutory Auditor or integrating their supervisory bodies.

He was designated by the Minister of Justice, from 1985 to 1994, as a member of the Jury of the exams for Chartered Accountant, having also been in those years, a member of the Education Commission of the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors. From 1984 to 1986 he was a member of the Practical Experience Committee of the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors. Currently and since 2000 he is a member of the Highest Council of Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors.

From 1986 to 2017 he was a member of the Portuguese Accounting Standards Board (CNC), integrating its Executive Committee, representing the Universities of Accounting.

From 1979 to 2003 he was Professor at Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão  (today, LISBOA School of Economics and Management from the Universidade de Lisboa), where he taught Auditing, as well as Accounting at post graduation level.
