António Baia Engana

António Baia Engana has graduated in Economics (1975/1976) from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (Instituto Superior de Economia, today the LISBOA School of Economics and Management of the Universidade de Lisboa) and has a BA in Accounting from the Instituto Comercial de Lisboa (1968/69).

He started his professional activity in 1969 in the Fund for the Development of Labor, which was interrupted between July 1971 and September 1974. In January 1975 he joined the Inspeção Geral de Finanças - IGF (Inspectorate General for Finance), where he has risen to the highest ranks. When he left IGF in 2007 he was Deputy General Inspector.

He is enrolled as a Chartered Accountant since 1989, (number 612 in the professional list) and is currently a partner of Alves da Cunha, A. Dias & Associados, SROC, Lda. His work as a Chartered Accountant has been carried out in different private, public and state owned companies and entities in the sectors of insurance, public investment, and audiovisual communications, integrating their supervisory bodies.

He was a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors from 2009 to 2014, presiding over this body after January 2012 till the end of 2014.

In 1994 he joined, representing IGF, the Portuguese Accounting Standards Board (CNC), having chaired its Executive Committee between 1999 and 2005. In 2009 and 2013, as an individual of recognized merit in accounting matters, he was elected by the General Council of the CNC as a member of this body, with a seat on the Executive Committee. He has actively participated in the work of CNC conducting to the proposal of the new Portuguese Accounting Standards System and has been following its development and deployment.

He holds a CAP ( Professional Aptitude Certificate) issued by the Portuguese Institute of Employment and Professional Training.
