Abílio Ançã Henriques

Abílio Ançã Henriques has graduated in Finance (1972/1973) from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (Instituto Superior de Economia, today the LISBOA School of Economics and Management of the Universidade de Lisboa) and subsequently completed a specialization in Top Business Management in a program conducted by AESE (Portugal).

After graduation he started his professional career as an auditor in an international firm and subsequently, in 1974, he joined the Inspeção Geral de Finanças - IGF (Inspectorate General for Finance), where he has risen to the highest ranks. He acted as Deputy General Inspector until his departure in early 1990.

He is enrolled as Chartered Accountant since 1980, (number 413 in the professional list), having been a member of its Registration Committee in the period 1980-1990. In 1979 and representing the Ministry of Finance, he joined the Working Group on the Review of the Legal Framework of Chartered Accountants. Given the public functions that he had been performing at IGF, his activity as a Chartered Accountant only developed after 1990, the year he established the firm now known as Alves da Cunha, A. Dias & Associados, Chartered Accountants, SROC, Lda.

Between October 1993 and June 2002, he was an executive at the highest level in the country and abroad, having been away from Statutory Auditing, as a result of the temporary voluntary suspension of his registration under the applicable Portuguese law. At the same time he has also developed the activity of business consultancy in matters of his expertise.

From October 1989 to September 1998, he held a position as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (today the LISBOA School of Economics and Management of the Universidade de Lisboa) lecturing Management Control and Auditing.
